Google has shaped how shoppers find products for a long time. That is changing. People now ask ChatGPT for buying advice, then click the links it cites. In the United States, other tools also matter, like Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini with AI Overview, and Anthropic Claude, but ChatGPT is where many buyers start.
In our four-month test during Q2–Q3 2025 across multiple K-beauty brands’ Shopify stores, sessions that began on ChatGPT stayed longer, viewed more decision content, and converted more often than those from Google. Engagement rate was about 270% higher and average time on site about 360% longer, which drove an average 183% lift in conversion rate.
- Classic SEO focused on domain authority, backlinks, and keywords.
- AI search looks for clear answers to specific questions, then shows a short list of sources.
When consumers ask ChatGPT a question like “What are the best K-beauty creams for sensitive skin?”, the tool reads expert blogs, review sites, comparison pages, and product documentation. It builds an answer and cites a few sources. If you are not in those citations, you are not in the conversation.

1. Be specific
Broad “best” lists rarely win. Build pages that match real buyer context: concern, climate, ingredient, and use case.
Example setup:
- Title: PDRN 0.2% routine for post-treatment sensitivity in humid weather
- URL /routines/pdrn-0-2-post-treatment-humid-weather
- Sections on who this is for, a three-step routine, what to avoid, proof snapshots, and FAQs
2. Evidence over hype
Citations favor pages that read like reference material. Put measured claims and proof where buyers can see them. As a ChatGPT agency, we keep the copy proof-first and easy to cite.
- Example proof line: Redness index −18.2% at day 14 (n=112, colorimetry, DL-2025-117). Proof PDF and certificate. Updated 2025-08-12.
3. Right kind of mentions
Mentions matter, but context matters more than volume. Standardize how others describe you.
- PR pitch line: Dermatologist-reviewed PDRN 0.2% cream for post-treatment sensitivity. Redness index −18.2% at day 14 (DL-2025-117). Link to proof page.
- Community plan: Share factual answers in relevant Reddit skincare threads and link to your proof page when it helps the reader.
4. Direct answers
Write to the question. Use short sections, tables, clear headings, and first-party data so ChatGPT can quote you.
Q Is this safe for acne-prone skin
A Yes. Fragrance-free and alcohol-free. PDRN 0.2% and madecassoside 0.1%. Patch-tested. See test DL-2025-117 and allergen list.

5. Product Description Pages
Publish a Product Fact Page for each SKU that editors and blogs can cite.
Suggested fields: SKU, GTIN, net contents, INCI with public percentages, pH, who it is for, compatibility with acids or retinoids or vitamin C, test results with IDs, allergen list, shelf life, storage, United States returns summary, version, updated date.
6. Keep parity everywhere
Match facts and policies across United States retail surfaces. Mismatches reduce trust and citations.
US parity checklist: brand site PDP, Amazon detail page and A+ Content, Walmart Marketplace listing, Target content hub listing, Sephora or Ulta PDP, Google Merchant Center feed.
Audit weekly for hero SKUs: net contents in both units, INCI order and any disclosed percentages, exact claims wording, returns text, images and alt text.
Use a simple distribution stack so your facts live beyond your site.
- Communities
- Reddit is one of the most cited sources in ChatGPT results, thanks to their partnership. It is also one of the strictest platforms, any hint of promotion can lead to removals or shadowbans. The game isn’t to avoid Reddit, it’s to master it. As a Reddit agency we figured out how to work within the rules while still making sure your brand is always part of the conversation. Done right, your answers stay live, earn trust, and show up in ChatGPT’s citations.
- Expert blogs and comparison hubs
- Contribute data-backed articles that include your descriptor line, test ID, and a link to the proof page.
- News and trade media
- Offer a small data note from a test or survey. Keep it neutral and measurable. Include one chart and an expert quote.
- Wikipedia and Wikidata
- Only if notability is met. Keep entries factual and well sourced.
- Review platforms
- Keep specs, claims, and ingredient lists identical to your site. Ask editors to cite your proof page.
1. Get noticed
Publish pages that answer real buyer questions. Keep the structure simple: short intro, a table, and clear takeaways.
- For beauty, include INCI percentages you can share, dermatologist test notes, layering guidance, and a concise returns and warranty section.
- For food, include nutrition tables, allergen statements, origin, shelf life, and storage with sources.
2. Earn trust
Pitch useful stories to media and reviewers. Share data, not slogans.
- Write fair comparisons that show where you win and where you do not; this will gain you trust.
- Answer questions in forums with facts and link to the relevant page when it helps.
- Place an expert post on a specialist blog that repeats your descriptor and links to your proof page.
3. Scale what works
Turn winning patterns into more pages and more off-site placements that cover similar use cases.
- Track your presence monthly in ChatGPT first, then check Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini with AI Overview, and Anthropic Claude. Track four items: Share of Answer, citation growth, link placement, and recommendation rate.
- Update hero SKUs weekly and keep retail listings in sync within two business days.
If your plan includes the United States or other export markets, align your facts and comparisons with the surfaces buyers use there. Keep Korean and English versions consistent. We help Korean brands make this shift when there is a real opportunity to grow outside Korea.
Expect steady movement in three to six months if you keep engaging with communities, placing smart articles, publishing pages with proofs, and maintaining parity. Brands that start AI search optimization now will hold a competitive advantage for the next decade.
