SKIN & LAB

/ PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGE CREATION

Overview

Based on the principle of Empty-Fill-Preserve, Skin & Labs is a beauty brand that develops products to maintain the skin's normal biological functions and provides the most fundamental skincare tips to help customers naturally incorporate them into their daily routine to live happier, more energized lives. While Skin & Labs had plenty of photos of the products themselves, they lacked images of models of diverse ethnicities that would appeal to the U.S. market, so they approached Disrupt to create a product concept photography project because they had the best understanding of the local market and a global sensibility. The Disrupt content team planned, shot, and edited images for eight of Skin&Lab's flagship products, including colorful conceptual model images that effectively appealed to the U.S. market, as well as formulation and packaging images that showcased the product's features. The result is compelling product imagery that appeals to global consumers.

Goals

  • Creating product images for Amazon Brand Stores and other platforms
  • Product concept photography
    (planning, shooting, and editing)

What we did

Phase 1
Pre-production

To create an image that would catch the attention and appeal to American consumers, we first analyzed the Skin & Lab brand and its eight products. Based on the brand and product analysis, we proposed a strategy to create different moods for each of Skin&Lab's eight products through concept ideation. We recruited suitable models directly from Disrupt, and selected 3 Caucasian, Black, and Asian models. From these models, Skin&Lab selected 1 model from each race. Based on the concept moodboard, we prepared a photolist of 10 images for each of the 8 products, 80 images in total, to represent the actual shoot with the models and concepts.

Phase 2
production

In order to capture the different packaging and formulations of the eight products through different concepts, we shot in various compositions and used other tools to create more stunning results. In particular, we paid close attention to the details of the model's facial expressions, skin texture, accessories, and outfits to capture images that match the mood of the product.

Phase 2
post-production

After the shoot, we worked on editing a total of 80 images for various channels, including Skin&Lab's Amazon brand store. Depending on the concept of each product, different colors and compositions were used, and professional editing was done considering colors and compositions to make the best use of each concept. In the case of model cuts, it is very important for the model's skin to look smooth due to the nature of cosmetics products, so we focused on this aspect as much as possible. After this editing process, the images were completed to show the best quality.
